What is Remedial Massage?

  • Remedial Massage uses specialised techniques, to fix and repair damage and support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms.
  • The Healing Practice uses Holistic Massage Therapy techniques in all remedial massages
  • Remedial Massage works to heat muscles and tendons that are damaged, impaired or knotted. It holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort back to the original cause.
  • The massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually oil, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint itself are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves are also used.

Who cannot be treated?

Massage is mostly a safe treatment to experience. However there are certain times when it is advised against or contra-indicated.

  • Inflamed conditions such as recent strains or sprains are best left until they are less inflamed, as massage may aggravate the symptoms more.
  • A suspected DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is cause to see your doctor first for a ‘clean bill of health’ first.
  • Certain cancers or active cancer treatment are also contra-indications.
  • Colds and flues can worsen or at least heighten the symptoms but may help to bring it to a head or lymphatic drainage may be more useful at this time, if a massage is strongly needed.

Who can benefit from Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is gnerally safe and effective for most people, from children to active or sedentary persons, to the elderly.

  • Stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed
  • Calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort
  • Toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility
  • Reparation of tissues and subsequent easing of stiffness and tension
  • Assisting improvement to the health of the cells  is another key benefit of therapeutic massage and relaxation

Remedial Massage with Back Scrub Add on

This combination is our specialised Remedial with Therapeutic Myofascial treatment and is designed to iron out any areas of tension or knots with a focus on the Fascia.
It includes a deeply relaxing, exfoliating back scrub – the perfect finish to unravelling tension and knots in your body.
Myofascial pain is a chronic pain disorder and very debilitating
Depending on your needs, this extended massage can either be all-over working from head to toe, finding and releasing tension as we go, or it can be a very targeted and focused session (e.g. lower back, shoulders and neck session, or glutes and legs session, pelvic area).
It helps to improve flexibility and release stress and tension in the muscles.
Your body will feel lighter and more flexible after the treatment.

What to expect during a Remedial Massage?

  • A history is taken at the beginning of each appointment so the treatment can be correctly tailored to your particular needs.
  • A treatment is 90 minutes.
  • We can discuss what you feel comfortable to wear before the massage
  • You can expect an hour session to focus on your back, hips, neck and shoulders, or focus on a particular area of need such as upper back, neck and shoulders, or hips, back and legs, and worked sufficiently to loosen and correct various areas of complaint.
  • The longer session of 90 minutes will do sufficiently more to trace the origins of symptoms and problems to a more satisfactory conclusion.
  • The massage will also include some stretches, which will be demonstrated to you and given as homework for you to do easily enough, so as to encourage both a continuing letting go or your symptoms and consequential tensions and a means to correct them as well.
  • After the Remedial massage, we can also discuss your lifestyle/habits or patterns in order to avoid future injury. Of course, whether or not you choose to make any changes is totally up to you!
